My Passion for Painting, June 2009

I have had a great desire to paint for many years since my sister and relatives were such good artists. I realized that I had the talent but needed fine teachers to help me develop my ideas and desires and paint them on the canvas. I have used oil from the beginning and loved it even though I have used acrylics and watercolor. But oils are my love.

Most of the time my work is of a tight nature, but I am finding that I love the loose flow of using the pallet knife and brushes to weave the lights and shadows of the colors with curves, lines, and angles to depict the impressions that are in my heart. I am motivated to paint most everyday to remember all the techniques that I have learned and to satisfy my creative passion.

I am a girl of the West and love the Western lure of the pioneers, the cowboys, the Indians, the mountains, and the deserts. And of course I love the history of the early west and to depict those stories on canvas after much research to make the stories live. I also have traveled most of Europe, Egypt, Israel, Old Mexico, and from coast to coast to gain insight and knowledge of people and places. I am married with six children, twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and have taught school for 27 years that focused on Language Arts, history, and Spanish. I enjoy my wealth of experiences.

I use my own photos of places that I travel to, models to represent the scenario, and some pictures that I find to use for references.
